The risks of investing.
Read this before you invest in any Tradiam fund.
Investments, not deposits
Unit trusts are investments, not bank deposits. Their value can fall as well as rise, and past returns do not guarantee future ones. Please read each fund's information memorandum before you invest.
Market and interest rate risk
Bond prices fall when interest rates rise, and money market yields fall when market rates fall. Wekeza, Tau and the ETF can lose value for a time.
Credit risk
A bank or an issuer a fund lends to may fail to pay interest or repay in full.
Liquidity and lock-in
Wekeza holds your money for the lock-in you choose, and leaving early pays only the yield accrued to date. Tau has a three-month lock-in. Heavy withdrawals across a fund can force it to sell holdings early.
Currency
Tau Fixed Income Fund is priced in US dollars. If you measure your wealth in shillings, exchange-rate moves change its value to you, in both directions.
The ETF
The WSA Banking Index ETF holds one sector in one country, so it moves with Kenya's bank shares. Its units can trade above or below their net asset value, and fees and costs mean its returns trail the index. It does not protect capital.
Inflation
Returns may trail rising prices, which reduces what your money can buy.
